Marriage (Vivaha Samskara)

Vivaha or marriage is considered the most important of the Shodasha Samskaras (sixteen sacraments) in a Hindu's life. It is the transition from Brahmacharya (student life) to Grihastha (householder life). At Bala Vaidheega Amaippu, we understand the gravity of this union. Our Iyer and Sastrigal team, led by senior Acharya J. Rajaraman, specializes in conducting traditional South Indian weddings that are spiritually grounded and culturally vibrant.

A wedding conducted by our Pandits begins long before the actual day. Our Progithar assists the families in matching horoscopes (Jathaka Porutham) and identifying the most auspicious Muhurtham (time). On the day of the wedding, a team of Ayyars is deployed to manage the various stages of the ceremony. The ritual starts with the Vishwa-sena Aradhana and Punyahavachanam, led by a senior Gurukkal, to purify the wedding hall and ensure the removal of any obstacles. The Kasi Yatrai is a highlight where the groom symbolically heads for Kasi, only to be brought back by the bride’s father, a ritual handled with humor and tradition by our Pujari.

The core of the wedding is the Maangalya Dharanam, where the Sastrigal chants the sacred Mangalyam Thanthunanena mantra, signifying the lifelong bond between the couple. Our Iyer team then guides the couple through the Sapta Padhi—the seven steps around the sacred fire. Each step is a vow for food, strength, wealth, happiness, progeny, seasons, and eternal friendship. An Acharya explains these vows to the couple, ensuring they understand the spiritual commitment they are making. The Agni Karya or Lajja Homam (offering parched rice to the fire) is conducted by the Progithar, invoking the blessings of Agni Devata as a witness to the marriage.

Our Ayyar team also excels in the cultural aspects of the wedding, such as Oonjal (swing ceremony) and Nalangu, ensuring that the atmosphere remains joyous. For families in Ayanavaram, we provide a complete end-to-end service, including the arrangement of the Homa Kundam, the procurement of high-quality Pooja items, and coordination with other service providers. Whether you are following the Apastamba, Bodhayana, or Ashvalayana sutras, our Pandits and Sastrigal are well-versed in the specific nuances of your family tradition. By entrusting your wedding to a Gurukkal from our team, you ensure that the Vivaha is not just a social event, but a profound Vedic sacrament that blesses the couple for generations to come.
