The completion of 60 years is a monumental event in the Vedic calendar, known as Sashtiyapta Poorthi. It marks the completion of one full cycle of the 60 Tamil years (Prabhava to Akshaya). At this age, a person is said to have fulfilled his duties to his family and society and is now entering a more spiritual phase of life. Our Acharya and Sastrigal team at Bala Vaidheega Amaippu organizes these celebrations with great detail and devotion.
The ceremony is essentially a "renewal of marriage vows." Our Iyer team conducts the Kalyana Utsavam for the couple, symbolizing that their bond has matured and is now divinely blessed. The ritual starts with the Yamuna Puja and Uthaka Shanti. A team of Ayyars chants the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and Purusha Suktam while performing an elaborate Abhishekam for the couple using 60 Kalasas (pots) representing each year of their life. This is supervised by our Progithar, who ensures that each pot is filled with water from holy rivers and energized with specific herbs.
The Pujari then guides the couple through the Maangalya Dharanam again, a poignant moment for the entire family. Our Gurukkal performs the Navagraha Homam and Mrityunjaya Homam to ensure the couple's continued health for the next phase of their life, known as Vanaprastha. In Ayanavaram, these events are often large family gatherings, and our Sastrigal team is well-equipped to manage the logistics of the rituals for a large number of guests.
Our Pandits explain the spiritual significance of the age of 60—it is the time when the five senses are mastered and the mind turns toward the inner self. By celebrating your parents' Sashtiyapta Poorthi with our Acharya and Ayyar team, you are showing them the highest form of Pitru Bhakti. The positive vibrations created by the Vedic chants during this ceremony provide the elders with a sense of peace, fulfillment, and spiritual rejuvenation.
